Starting a ZX Spectrum clone project

Got a PCB from the developer and a load of parts from Digikey for another version of countless ZX Spectrum clones, called ZX Nuvo.  The developer's page with schematic, BOM and PCB build info is here:

This particular variant was selected because it has a built-in SD Card interface as well as joystick port, RGB port and sound chip. And the author supplies the PCB with a Xilinx chip for the SD pre-programmed and soldered.
Will see what comes out of this.

The fun part is coming up with a ULA for the screen hardware etc.
What are you doing about the ROM software ? I would guess it is copyrighted ?

Amstrad, current owners of the Spectrum, have given permission for the ROMs to be used in emulators for non-commercial purposes. The OP's project is just emulating the Spectrum in hardware.

Thanks, there is no shortage of Z80 in all sort of packages, I have a few from the era on old PLC boards,  Digikey sells them as well.

This is a hardware project. No fun whatsoever using software emulators.
