Interesting, I had never seen, nor heard of, anything like this before.
I noticed something (in the lower-right corner of the picture) that I noticed on my first ZX-80 back in 1981: the PCB has an option to use either one 2016 2K RAM chip (as shown,) or a pair of 2114 1K x 4 RAM chips. My kit came with the 2114 RAM chips, and unfortunately I did not have a 2016 chip. Thanks for reminding me that my memory was correct.
