Why would this really large piece of plate glass have a ZX81 image bonded to it?

A dear friend found this at a street market & gifted it to me. Has anyone ever seen such a thing & is it simply a piece of decorative retro geek tech art or an actual tool or something for the infamous Sinclair computer?

Interesting, I had never seen, nor heard of, anything like this before.

I noticed something (in the lower-right corner of the picture) that I noticed on my first ZX-80 back in 1981: the PCB has an option to use either one 2016 2K RAM chip (as shown,) or a pair of 2114 1K x 4 RAM chips. My kit came with the 2114 RAM chips, and unfortunately I did not have a 2016 chip. Thanks for reminding me that my memory was correct.

Wow, that would be a terrible clipboard to write on with your pen nib/pencil tip constantly digging through the paper and dropping into the holes.
Unless you have a thick pad of paper, and then why do you need a clipboard?

Last weekend was the Retro Fair at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge  (UK), these cutting boards were on sale in the shop there.
I would have loved one but a glass board would last 5 minutes in my house  :)
