I should have asked this years ago, but am finding the time to ask now that I am without a job.
Is
NABCEP certification worth anything? This is a certification for solar photovoltaic system designers. I wanted to pursue becoming certified in 2013 when I got fired from a job, but had an argument with my girlfriend about it. She says it is likely worthless, and not worth spending $500 or $1000 on. She and I are married now. I brought it up again a few months ago and argued with her again. I said I'm 90% sure it's a good certification that is well-regarded in the industry, and she says she has no evidence of that and will not believe it unless I provide some evidence.
It has been five years, and the only thing I've accomplished is becoming a licensed unlimited electrical journeyman in Oklahoma. It's not exactly what I want to do. I want to design and install solar photovoltaic systems, and could have had this certification long ago if my wife didn't vehemently protest every time I say I want to get it.
Also, I'm looking for a new job. I would like to do solar PV design or energy efficient building systems design or PCB design and layout for automation or energy efficiency applications. I sold my house and have all my stuff packed up, and would like to move out of Oklahoma into an area with a cooler climate and smarter people. Here is my
LinkedIn profile, and my resume is attached.
