Server Engineer (DevOps) - Blue Mountains/Sydney or work remote.
« on: February 04, 2016, 11:07:56 pm »
Hi All,

Many of you may know me already as the guy who keeps the server this website is hosted on operating at peak performance and fixing when people screw up :). I have found myself out of work unexpecedly after the holliday break due to a contractial screw up at the company I was working for and as such I am looking for anyone willing to hire me.

I am no electroics engineer, I just do this stuff as a hobby for fun. I can follow a schematic and build a circuit on veroboard, still learning the basics :). My primary skill sets are software development, server engineering and hardware support (DevOps).

As a hobby I have been very active in the open source community where I primarily focus on C/C++ and PHP development, my largest contributions to date have been to the XBMC project (now Kodi) where I re-wrote the audio subsystems (dubbed AudioEngine) in the application providing platform agnostic audio support that was consistent on all hardware platforms and operating systems. When completed this had reached 22,000 lines of C++ and represented the single biggest code-merges ever for the project.

More recently I have been contracting for a company in Sydney as both a consultant and a DevOps building a PCI 3.0 compliant infrastructure to manage credit card accounts for large corporations. This was primarily a Linux build but with windows components such as Active Directory integration and Microsoft SQL servers consisting of over 100 servers across 3 environments.

I also run my own buisness where I am offering both hosting and 24/7 server monitoring, management and support, but this buisness is new and does not yet earn enough to feed my family.

Due to where I live either local work or work remote would be preferable as the travel time into Sydney is quite horrendous (5-6 hours a day by train to the CBD)

If you are interested in using me or would like more information please PM me.

-Geoff

I hope you found what you were looking for. Having recently moved to The Mountains myself, I know how much of a bitch Sydney can be to live and work. Although that said, I wouldn't give this place up for the world, it's magnificent. I work in Western Sydney and drive 50-60 minutes each way which is not so bad. Trust me when I say the M4 motorway is far better than the M5/Hume Highway. Have you been down Campbelltown way lately? It'll take you 30 minutes just to get on/off Narellan Road! Also, getting out of Liverpool in peak hour just sucks.
