Hello:
A few months ago, as I always feared, my Agilent 34401A suddenly failed, and of course, the problem was the display. The U602, which is an N80C51BHL (34401-88813), short-circuited and was draining the 5V power supply.
I've repaired a few in the past with the same problem, and it was fairly easy to find replacement parts, but this time it was a bit more difficult and a bit more expensive.
Through eBay, I found a seller who promised a lot, but in the end, the VFD arrived broken, and there were no glass panels in the bag. So, I deduce that it was packaged with that defect. Although the seller advertised that it worked, they were lying. They also lied about the type of display and sent one with the U600 uPD7527 (1820-8985) controller. Since the price wasn't very high, I decided to tinker a bit and put my VFD on the board with the uPD7527 controller. I closed my eyes and turned on my 34401A, and my Agilent 34401A worked. Therefore, I deduce that the display boards are compatible, although I've read somewhere that they aren't. If you want more details, I'll gather them and post them in this thread.
Regards.
