SolidCraft - New open source 3D parametric software
« on: October 26, 2026, 11:39:42 pm »
www.solidcraft.io
rover model: https://solidcraft.io/showcase/

- Windows, mac, linux, and web versions
- Support files: Step, Iges, STL/3MF, DXF

Performance and visuals seems good. Small amount of lag when sketching.
Bit laggier on the rover model, though its maxing out my GPU (6GB 3050) so a higher end GPU or more memory should help.
Very new so expect bugs.

I played with it a few minutes from browser. Got a few bugs, but nothing critical.  At first glance feels good. Perhaps, I'll try to use it. If it can provide better experience than freecad, and won't be abandoned I'll be very happy.

There are many free cad programs, but this one feels the closest one to being useful for me. I assume it should support integration with AI out-of-the-box.

Missed cyclotron had already posted it in the AI thread: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chatgptai/with-ai-help-opensource-replacements-for-ms-office-and-adobe-in-the-wild/msg6386291/#msg6386291 I think its relevant here as its already useful for basic 3D part modeling.

Looks better than freecad for my uses, I'm used to solidworks UI so its familiar.

It isn't forward compatible, but is backward, which is fine: "0.25.0 writes design file format 41 (0.24.1 wrote 40). It opens every earlier design, but 0.24.1 and earlier refuse a design saved by 0.25.0."

The AI toolbar is off by default but easy to enable, lots of options there. But I'm not able to get it working yet.. I have responses coming in but not being executed.

Posted a request, 2h later a commit is made fixing the issue, internal tests are run, next day the release is available with fix included.
Complex bugs are obviously going to be a lot harder, and I have no idea who is managing what requests are permitted or not, but still, impressive.
