Altium won't Export BOM (fixed?)

After two hours I haven't found a solution but I found a workaround that's close enough...  difficult to say if the problem is Altium or Excel.

Problem: New PC, new excel and Altium installations, can't export a bill of materials. Nothing happens, no file is created, no error... Altium just thinks for a moment then ... nothing.

Fix: Select "Generic XLS" as the file format....     then it opens in Excel like normal

Yeah I wonder if it might be related to the new Excel 365 features? I tried setting opening in desktop to the default (rather than online) but didn't seem to help.

I wonder if it could have anything to do with Office Click-to-Run, which is how Office is preinstalled on many systems. That’s basically where the software is semi-virtualized, which among other things reduces its attack surface for malware, but which also can cause interoperability issues with some things.

It is possible to replace a Click-to-Run install with a classic local install. It might be worth a try.
