The source of "Extra Pin… in Normal of part" warnings
« on: May 30, 2020, 12:56:08 am »
This has always been a bugbear everytime I compile a schematic and get tons of these types of warnings. What on earth are they talking about ?? Even the Altium online help does not make it clear what is going on with these warnings. This concept of viewing mode of the parts in the library was totally foreign to me until I came across across this website and explanation and now it makes perfect sense !

http://www.programmersought.com/article/89083545460/

I managed to clean up the library by deleting alternate modes with bogus footprints and pins thus reducing the number of warnings ! Now most of the warnings remaining are things like power ports connected to passive components flagging a floating port error etc.

cheers

ok, as a new Altium Designer user, I have been struggling with this Extra pin warnings for a couple of days.
And for the life of me, I just couldn't find any meaningful method to fix the dang warning.

Now, after reading through your blog, are you telling me that, this has been a bug all along, and they still have not fixed it after 6 years?

Its not a bug, its explained in that link "The analysis is where the problem is. The cause of this problem may be that new components are usually copied from other parts."

Though I'm sure the error message could be improved.
