FWIW, I'd prefer the old reliable low cost switching method rather than today's infini-heat regulators.
What he mentions about reliability, power wastage and mains surges, makes newer controls look like a backward step. :-DD

Also, I have an older 3.2 mega pixel camera I can modify for IR usage as he demonstrates. Good takeaway and very handy!  :-+

This is interesting- I guess I've only seen the Infinity type self heating controls.  Its all about wire cost, 2 verses 7 relatively heavy gauge wires.

The engineering and solutions that you find in these old consumer appliance type system are usually really clever as well as cheap and reliable.

The infinitely variable PWM control is by no means new and is pretty much a standard in the US; here's a diagram from a 1960 service manual.
