Amps AC reading
«

Hi all,
Another Noob question here.
What should a multimeter (fluke 87) show when there are no leads plugged in and the dial is set to Amps AC? Would a reading of 0.013 indicate an out of calibration (or faulty) meter?
Many thanks
Alan

That measurement seems reasonable given that there will be some noise pick up if nothing is connected to the meter.

Check DMM AC current specifications. TRMS meters have higher offset with no input connected on AC voltage and AC current.

Have you tried short circuiting the input terminals with a very short piece of wire?

Thanks electra_peter.
No not tried that Hero999. Will give that a go. Don't measure AC amps that offen, more electronics. But just wondered if it meant something was going out of kilter.
Thasnk all :-)
