Corelase Oy - 10kW Complete laser module system Help needed
« on: December 17, 2023, 04:33:10 pm »
Hi!
I have acquired a second hand fiber laser module from Corelase Oy. Corelase was acquired by Coherent, and they don't reply at my email.
The output fiber was cutted, and i don't have any specs of the module.
It's a complete module system composed by 10x320W Diode laser pumping system, an oscillator, refrigeration circuit, and logic board. the output power was rated max 10kW CW.
The idea is to replace the output fiber and use this in my Laser CNC that now have a YAG source.
Assuming that I can buy a lumina Laser diode driver rated 120v 30A, it's feasible to create a control logic for this module? The oscillator need to talk with PSU? I don't know if the oscillator need to be controlled or is a passive component.
Thanks

Since the output fiber was cut, your plan to replace it is a good approach. However, without the original specs, you’ll need to proceed carefully.

This project sounds terrifying (for any section of the forum that I can think of). 10kW CW is in the industrial steel cutting range isn't it?!

Just a random thought. I don't know anything about the size or construction of your Laser CNC setup, but have you considered just using one of the 320W laser diode modules (with lots of spares)? 30A at low voltage with no worries about timings and YAG pumping sound a lot more achievable and a bit safer. Whilst still being more powerful than the typical setup.

As I say, I don't know anything about the size of your setup. Maybe some photos?
Best Regards, Chris

Replacing the entire output fiber is the best and probably the easiest and cheapest way to proceed - if you can get one and if it is not totally glued in place by the manufacturer . . .  :-//
I see no way of repairing the cut fiber without the proper tools which will be industrial level .

Can i say : I REALLY HATE PEOPLE WHO JUST CUT EVERYTHING ?      :--

And what is a device as dangerous as this high power laser doing in the beginners section ?  :scared:   ;D  Just kidding

Ciclonite already owns and uses a CNC laser device - so i suspect he knows , what he's doing .
But you are quite right Gyro - this is a really serious piece of equipment . I don't want to be in the same room with this device when it is active and not 1000% properly set up .

I just noticed that the OP has another relevant thread from earlier this year, although that one was only 300W CW ...

Hi Thanks to all for reply.
@Fry : Sure, i have the entire fibre 24meters long that can i use for replace the cutted one. But this is the minor problem from my point of view, the problem is the cotrol logic, i have no specs, and also this 10kW module is a slave module part of a complete system that output 60kW CW.

@gyro :  My Cnc is a 2500Kg 1500mmx1000mm YAG laser cutter from 2016, YASKWA servo, with german linear rails. The Chiller have a dual usage cold / warm setup (12kW cooling power). The control is Cypcut, on windows 10. Very rock solid machine, but for 650W YAG output, drain about 35kW!!!, it's a fails :)
I've also the laser pumping module, but have too low power and wavelenght it's not suitable for cutting. See the photo attached.

I've studied about 7 months the laser system, i'm aware that this is a very delicated and dangerous task, but i wan't to achieve the result. This 10kW module have 4 hours of run-time, it's new!!

Also changing the Laserhead, reusing the chiller, i can achieve a laser cutting power of 10kW  With max 15kW of drain power, that can be enough for cut 30mm SS. :)

But the isn't too much leterature on oscillator, so someone know if the oscillator need to be drive for working correctly? Because i need to create my own control logic with talk with PSU on serial.

Ah, ok, yes that's bigger than I was thinking.  :D

Interesting photos, thanks.
