E-Z-Hook "mini-hook" Test Clip - How to attach a wire?
« on: August 25, 2021, 08:45:53 pm »
This is probably a really dumb question, but I had a test lead break on one of these E-Z-Hook test clips and I don't see a way to re-attach it as the top appears to be glued on. Does anyone know?  :-//

Maybe this will give a clue: https://ezhook.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/X100W.pdf

When a hammer or wrench don't seem sufficient, RTFM (read the field manual).

I am also seeking info on how to solder these.  The data sheet offers no help.  I need to know how to route the lead wire, what soldering technique to still allow clip to move, etc.

What's everyone's opinion of this technique?

Thanks, all... the entire EZ-Hook "bulb" top does indeed just pull off. It looks like the lead wire was originally crimped on, so just laying the newly stripped wire directly on top of the old crimp and soldering it should work fine.

I would suggest a little strain relief, like a short piece of heat shrink tubing.  I would also remove the old, probably open the crimp, and then solder my wire.

Adding heat shrink is a good idea. The crimp on mine looks like it would be tough to open & re-use without damaging the lead post, though. The crimp is nearly mashed down flat and the post metal looks pretty fragile.
