Learning designing SMPS
« on: June 11, 2015, 04:46:50 pm »
Hey guys,
I am trying to learn designing a SMPS, I want to know how to I go forward with it. Which book show I refer or is there any other resources available. I would love to if the resource is more practically oriented but can deal with anything right now just want to learn.

Thank you guys,
YashRK.

The Art of Electronics has an excellent chapter on power conversion

as does the numerous free resources from Linear.com

I find the The Post Apocalyptic Inventor to be both entertaining and helpful on SMPS

The Post Apocalyptic Inventor is very good but he hasn't posted anything on it recently, really looking forward to it.

Hi to all.

If you are interested in SMPS, I have some videos that may be useful. I go thru step by step and show you how to derive the equations needed to design a simple flyback converter and then teach you how to use Topspice to simulate a flyback converter. These videos are a work in process and where intended to train my fellow coworkers at work. I hope you find them useful. Questions and comments can be sent to rbola35618@aol.com or you can post them here.

May your simulation always converge!

Flyback 1: How to analyze and model a flyback

Flyback 2: How to model and simulate a flyback

Flyback 3: How to model the transformer

Flyback 4:How to model the transformer and simulate

Flyback 5: How to account for efficiency and dutycycle

Flyback 6: How to wind and characterize a transformer

Flyback 7: Testing the transformer

Flyback 8: How to measure and set the control loop

Flyback 9: Input filter design

Flyback 10: Input filter differential mode noise

Flyback 11: Input filter common mode noise

I have the below book on my bookshelf for reference. however, I have not read it since, in practice, I just use the vendors software tools to configure the passive parts around their ICs...
