Making CAN BUS Fault-tolerant transceiver?
« on: April 03, 2023, 11:49:08 am »
Hi, I have not found any pre-made "CAN BUS Fault-tolerant transceiver" module on ebay/aliexpress to buy so I am thinking to make my own. I have disassembled few car modules which have this transceiver, they are using TJA1054 chip. Also they have some additional components: one module seems to have Common Mode Filters and another module seems to have Data and signal line chokes:

or

My question is: Are these "Common Mode Filters/Data and signal line chokes" mandatory? Can I use transceiver without them?

I have found a simple circuit on the internet it seems not to have those components:

Would it work ok?

They are not mandatory for operation, but they may be necessary to meet your system fault tolerance requirements.

You need to compare the level of tolerance the transceiver provides with your requirements. Most practical systems would use some sort of additional filtering.
