Mosfet getting really hot
« on: December 16, 2024, 10:55:25 pm »
So i am very confused and now stuck at a crossroad.

I am building a powerbank system that uses a 2s2p liion with dual bms's to run a set of boost converters to get to 12.4v

I purchased. IRLB4132 due to the low RDS on value, or so I thought.

When pushing 10A through this IRL (max amperage for design) with a gate to source 1M resistor, and a 10ohm, gate resistor (to deal with ringing?)

This thing is getting over 250F in ambient according to my thermal camera.

I don't understand what I did wrong. I looked at various mosfets for BMS, that are tiny compared to this thing, and are barely getting over ambient (my 8A bms's barely get warm)

what am i doing wrong.

I don't understand what I did wrong.

If you bought them on AliExpress, there could be anything inside the package.  Most likely it is a much smaller and cheaper part that has been remarked.

However, what is the VGS?

based on the offical data sheet.

RDS(on) max
(@ VGS = 10V) 3.5 m
(@ VGS = 4.5V) 4.5 m

but even if that was the case, why is it the bms module which cost me a whopping 81c, is not even warm passing close to the same current?

No, I mean what is the measured VGS in your circuit?

Please post your schematic.

To close this out since I asked for the post to be deleted.

The Mosfets were fake. I ordered a set from Mouser with 1.5mohm RDS, I went from 295F at 10A to 5 degree's over ambient.

No, dont delete it! Its valueable information for others!

Did you write a negative review?

Do you also see 5 ratings of a average of 5 stars?
