Noble Quad gang potentiometer
« on: October 08, 2023, 11:10:28 pm »
I had taken out the pot for my Denon DAP-5500 as it was scratchy and would sometimes drop a channel til I would work it and would come back for few days. Decided I had time today and would just desolder from board and disassemble and clean properly. My only issue is I forgot to take a pic of the orientation of each of the white wiper parts and how they were aligned. Due to the shape of the rod and the cutouts on each wiper piece, they can only go one of two ways. I did have frame of mind right after I took off the first (back) and I know how that last white wiper was orientated, note the main shaft is turned to "max volume" in that photo. Does anyone know if the other three wipers are in same orientation or if not which way each should be orientated on shaft when reassembling from front to back?

This is the photo of the pot with the back taken off rear and shaft turned all way to "max"
Also one of everything for reference

So, you have a logarithmic pot with 12 connections? 4 gangx3 per gang. Is it a multilayered pot, with multiple coils?

Yes there are 12 connections to the pcb when soldered in. Not sure about your other question, all the parts are shown in the second photo. Thanks

Basically I just need to know if the wipers are all orientated in the same way when reassembled onto the shaft

I don't "know", but I would go for reassembling using the same orientation for all four so the wipers of each touch the carbon track on each board ..

Here are my before and after from my Noble adventure

If three 100  Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

Regarding reassembly I'd say they went back in "oriented the same way".

As for the cleaning... :
I wet sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper  lightly

If you are less daring or don't have 2000 andpaper,
You could also use rough paper like from a cardboard box, microfiber cloth , MrClean magic eraser or even an actual eraser.

or a fiberglass / polishing brush  like this: https://www.amazon.com/Fiberglass-Scratch-Brush-Pen-applications/dp/B07S3RCTGZ/ref=asc_df_B07S3RCTGZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=366352853698&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15227932554518753675&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031168&hvtargid=pla-815393027928&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=76503872856&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=366352853698&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15227932554518753675&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031168&hvtargid=pla-815393027928
