Switching regulator for low power worth it?
« on: May 22, 2022, 01:20:49 am »
I want to run a low power FPGA off a coincell battery. I will need 1.2 and 2.5v for my application. I don't know the current draw yet (hopefully below 25ma). Is it worth exploring a switching regulator? Are there any meant for low power operation that have the inductors built into a single surface mount package?

I am well aware of the limitations of the coin cell. I'm not looking for continuous operation for days or even hours. Intermittent operation for minutes.

But I think I was able to eventually answer my own question. The RM590 line seems to do what I'd like. But the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze.
