USB cable shield no continuity is OK?

Hello, I recently got few USB 2.0 cables with gold plated ends etc.
They do not have continuity on the shield, as the cable ends do not have continuity. Are they out of spec?

What's the point in gold plating if it's not connected  :-DD

According to USB spec, the shield should be grounded at the host end only.

That's within the 'slave' device though, not the cable connectors.

The cable should have shield continuity from one end to the other. I suspect your nice gold plated cables don't have an sort of shield, probably just 4 cores.  ;)

That could be the case, as these were from china, as everything these days.
The resistance is between 4 wires is OK.

I had some wires that shield was connected but the resistance was crazy, the resistance for data pins was high also. Probably fake cable steel instead of copper, the strange thing the cable worked OK for programming arduino  :-//

I was holding back on suggesting that possibility! Scanning around ebay, it looks as if most Arduino clones connect the Shield to PCB ground so the extra ground path probably helped you out in that case. Funny how things work out!  :)

Gold plating makes people think the cable is better and it adds class/style ;)

Gold plating really makes cables or any connectors better, but only if they are made properly in the first place.

Furthermore it seems as china gold plating is simply titanium plating, because it looks the same and is cheaper then gold plating. Anybody thinks the same?

Regarding the cable, I will get my money back, but I should not use it because of potential data loss etc?
