Hello, I'm Horst and I live in Saxony  :)
I work at the undertaker, but my hobby is electronics; i try to repair electrical devices, 99% of the time I don't solve the problem, but that's okay
 ^-^
Men usually read football magazines  :-//
but there are men who prefer to make love with electrons  ^-^
My equipment is: soldering station, two multimeters, bench power supply.
I'd like to start a seductive relationship with a screwdriver..   :palm:
I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want to buy the worst...
For example the model PB Swiss 6100 is ok for beginner man? or better Wera 917 SPH?
Other brands on these prices?
Do you have any advice for me? i am in your hands...
thanks
Horst.

So....  you are passionate about screw drivers....  huh?

Anywho...

What size are you needing?  Tiny, small, large or magnum?  Electric or manual?  Ultra thin or....  :-DD

I'm somewhat disappointing with Wiha.  Tips were not as well construed as the price suggested.  It's not hardened enough.  Few uses, all critical edges were lost and started slipping.  All kidding aside, I really wasn't impressed with Wera.  As to recommendations, I don't have any.  I had a fair luck with Chinese made kind.  Not the absolute cheapest kind but good 10 to 20 dollars for a set.  I just don't expect much from them (or any one of them), and as the points dull, I just replace.  You know, stamina isn't there.

It's the other kind of charge carriers that might be more appropriate for this application, methinks...

You will fall in love with a Reed and Prince (or Prince and Reed) screwdriver.  Only someone truly passionate about cross-headed screws will be able to identify it.

https://chapmanmfg.com/products/reed-prince-frearson

Also known as a Frearson screwdriver, but real tool lovers call it by its real name.

Thanks for pointing out you're male. That totally changes the recommendations I had in mind.  ;)

Go for the unbreakable ones that are used in space repairs. And since you're male don't cry if you run out of budget to do anything else on your electronics hobby.
goto considered awesome!

I’m not sure which is worse. When my tool jumps out of the slot or when my tip breaks off  :palm:

Ideally screw....drivers...should be free.  However, if you are unable to get free screw....drivers, definitely go for expensive.  Cheap screw...drivers are hazardous to to your health and safety.

I'd recommend Knipex or Stahlwille.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

wiha bit kit for 50$ with the extension will get you most stuff

I recommend taking care of it (build a block of wood that you put the bits in that is solid) and take care of them with oil.

Mine got rusty because of a corrosive flux spill, I actually took the time to wire brush every bit then clean it up with a diamond sharpening stone (lap) on ever facet. Don't keep buying screw drivers. I used to use a vice grip for screws

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wiha-Tools-75992-Esd-Precision-Screwdriver-Set-Combo-27Pc/223757822334?epid=15019974499&hash=item341901697e:g:xRoAAOSwG69d1DqT

Try saving money on screw drivers so you can buy nice stainless screws for projects

If you want to restore rusty bits, keep in mind you can put them into a screw driver backwards and gently brush the back side, being careful not to fling the bit. '

If you are interested in electronics, and not mechanics, I recommend you clean every mechanical tool you can so you have a respectable project budget (a wire wheel can make you thousands). If you have a deep interest in mechanics, you will find damage that annoys you and is difficult to repair so it makes more sense to buy new stuff.

For a serious screwdriver fanatic, only the best and sturdiest will do when the going gets tough.  I recommend the Wera 072017 hammer impact screwdriver set.

I just remembered the perfect screwdriver for your purposes; the Rosco Two Fister. Unfortunately it is no longer in production, but a diligent search of FleaBay might find a shining example for a very reasonable price; especially considering the ultimate utility provided by keeping both hands busy while fondling it.  :-DD

I really like the shape of Wera. I bought a Kraftform Kompakt 20 Tool Finder, ideal for around the house stuff.
And the Wera Kraftform Kompakt Micro set for inside devices.

Here is my obligatory comment, to make this thread go 40 pages long.
I think you should try Pozidrive, it is better than Tektronics.

is like asking which one is the best? skinny, or fatty? whitish blackish or brownish black head red head etc... if you really in love you should try them all :palm: for me the best one is the cheap one because i can afford to buy many of them after i broke another one.

Dear Horst

I'd recommend this one:

It's no so good at driving screws, but will open bottles of beer. This is really useful for watching TV, especially these soccer games.

Is this serious?
If so, best sets I got the last years is the Wiha system4 for small things like electronics
and the Wiha system 6 for larger things.
Why I love them is because they stick together in a nice box or pouch and you never have to search in your overcrowded drawer to find the right screwdriver. You just know it is there.
And they fit really nice in the screws.

Had a funny experience buying a set of electronics Wiha screwdrivers for my sons birthday.
He was building his first PC.

I looked around a few places but found a set on Amazon that seemed to suit. There was about 20 Wiha sets IIRC.

When I went to purchase the cart, Amazon told me that I had purchased the exact same set 4 years before.  :palm:

Went into my workroom and there it was hiding under some stuff, I had forgotten I owned it.  :palm:

So I gave it to him second hand, what's the issue, at least it wasn't late

too much price for the same thing... ;) i dont have objection, if you can afford it why not? but its like marrying Pamela Anderson vs marrying someone on the street that looks alike Pamela Anderson... here is what i currently use.. https://shopee.com.my/-Ready-Stock-MARKSMAN%C2%AE%EF%B8%8FII--36pcs-Screwdriver-Set-i.102586968.3543345849 the eqv price shown is only $10... i have something similar but smaller and cheaper earlier that broke due to its plasticy construction that hold the bits, but the bits are still useful because they are metal, so i keep them but havent yet a need to dig them because the Marksman has more than what i currently need (and Marksman sounds good too :P) if someone dont like all in one driver handle that fits every bits, this each handle for each bit probably can be loved, https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/2255389832 but i dont kind of like it since it requires too much space to store, ymmv. ps: now i think i want to be in love with this type https://www.wiha.com/nz/en/tools/multitools/interchangeable-blades/wiha-system-4/?p=1 since the bulge that hold the bits sometime blocking the bits from entering a deep hole screw, got to find one for stock..

I suppose you are talking watch-maker size. I have a Proxxon set for like 10 years now, use them daily for my work. (Hex, torx, philips, straight) Better quality as the small Wiha set I have too. I have a few bit-sets with small bits for the more exotic types.

But I bought an ifixit bit set a few months ago and since then I use it for everything because I love the handpiece and the bits are good, bought it mainly because I often could use a flex extender and did not had one.

Full size I have 2 sizes posidrive, 3 sizes philips, 3 sizes straight. I also have a few drivers with an extra-extra-long shaft.

If you plan to work on imperial stuff you need a good set of imperial hex and torx

I'd go with the hammer too; if there isn't any other tool than a hammer by hand, every problem starts to look like a pin ;)

otherwise my choice is Wiha

That is a bad metaphor IMO, P.A. has an extremely short usability, while once spent a bit more money on a good set of screwdrivers you can enjoy it the rest of your life and it stays as good as the first day  :)

It would be worse if he didn't have a soldering iron or multimeter.

My screwdriver collection is larger than my multi-meter collection.

Some of the equipment I work on has lots and lots of screws.   For these, I have a Bosch PS20 that I really like.  It has all sorts of control at very low speeds and the torque can be set so low that I use it with pretty much any application.  I think it goes up to around 80 inch lbs.   Its gentle enough for a woman but made for a man.

My go-to screwdriver on the bench is a Pic-Quic multique.

I normally *hate* multibit screwdrivers, but I love the Pic-Quic.

Can't lose the bits, they're always there, and built like a tank (and here in Vancouver, Canada too)

Yes. Start with #2 Phillips, and work your way up to Robertson type before moving to using Flathead one. Once feel comfortable with the Flathead, turn the Phillips one around and repeat the relationships.

I'm somewhat disappointing with Wiha.  Tips were not as well construed as the price suggested.  It's not hardened enough.  Few uses, all critical edges were lost and started slipping.

I have had the same experience with Wiha; their tips are not any harder than cheap brands.

Honestly the screwdrivers I get the most use out of are stubby 1/4" hex drivers so I can change the bits as they wear out; I have a bunch of Home Depot and Lowes bargain bin specials.

I am thinking of trying the Wera Kraftform series, and they are not cheap, but am still looking for good smaller set:

Do you have any advice for me? i am in your hands...
thanks
Horst.
