What all do I need to know in order to help design a wiring harness and bus-bar?

Hi, as part of an internship I'd be working on wiring harness design and bus-bar for an electric bike. This is my first time working on this and they have asked me to do "my research" and at the moment I am feeling pretty lost, what's a good place for me to start?
