This sucks for watching on Mobile (they did something evil where watching in a browser on mobile automatically lags/stutters the vid, tried every browser and have high speed internet, they force you to use the stupid app).

What's worse is Youtube is profiling creators with ads. I've had my ad preferences turned off since a long time ago, so it's usually just random garbage, TikTok, Temu, the occational clickbait ad, exc. HOWEVER, I've noticed a disturbing trend with certain creators having horrible ads and it seems based on things like country or possibly even whether the creator has an accent. This is really bad when watching technical/scientific or educational content, as it's not only annoying but insulting to the creator, they don't deserve this. For example, on Chernobyl Family, every...single...midroll...ad...is A FUCKING INVESTMENT SCAM ("get rich quick" shit)! What the hell do you have against Ukraine, Alphabet Corp.? It happens on Diodegonewild's channel too! Weird scammy stuff out of left field, what's wrong with Czech Republic? Huh Youtube? There are other educational channels that have this issue but those are just a few that spring to mind.

Alphabet corp, or probably just the robot that runs Youtube these days, is a nationalist pig that needs to be thrown in a crusher. There's only two letters left in Alphabet...and that's F and U.

I've simply adopted a practice of not buying advertised products, simples.   
If a product or service is in need of promotion then I don't need nor want it.

As long as YouTube doesn't have a credible competitor I think it will only become worse for both the viewer and content creators. What stops me from using Odysee all the time is that the site is very slow  compared to YouTube (especially on my tablet) and that there is much less content there.

Were you paying attention? Creators can control whether midrolls are on or not, but they can't control what ads are shown, it's Youtube that does. Those scams are also all from the US, it's nothing to do with Ukraine, or preserving soviet computer history. Do not throw channels under the bus because of shit YT does, that's literally my point!

I think this already started.
A few weeks ago they started to force "unskippable" ads on me that get through uBlock Origin.
How foolish, they are.
Of course those adds are skippable. It is just a single click to another video. They must be mad to think that I am willing to sit trough some advertisement before a video starts. (For the same reason I stopped going to the cinema 30 years ago and instead I bought my own beamer before they became mainstream).

On itself I would not mind on paying for a service like "Youtube Premium", except that it is still run by the despicable google. So maybe I'll have a further look into those alternative platforms. But overall, I don't care much about video's. I do support several open source projects and their creators, but video's are mostly to fill some time for me.

Have you tried a user agent switcher in your mobile's browser, have it tell Youtube it is a desktop browser? See if the website will behave properly that way.

First of all, kudos to Dave for not infesting his mid-rolls with adverts

However, there are many content creators who believe mid-roll advertisements are some kind of golden goose that shites revenue all over them. Nope, even if you are monetised, mid-rolls just p!ss off channel viewers. Especially when the exact same advertisement is played on repeat; there is no credit if you watch the whole advertisement, as you're expected to watch it all over again! Which is why I suspect YT [alphabet] invoices their advertising customers using some antiquated page views meter, rather than a more sophisticated 'impact' metric. The more views the more impact-fulness right? Wrong. [And impact-fulness is not really a word either.] I have no objection to content creators name checking to their sponsor, but I am starting to unsubscribe channels with an outbreak of 'acne'.
