EEVblog 1696 - TUTORIAL: Wind Power 101
« on: July 17, 2025, 03:48:38 am »
A short tutorial on the maximum efficieny and power you can get from a wind generator. Also applies to water turbine generators.
Also deriving the industry standard wind power formula from first principles: Power (W) = 1/2 x ρ x A x v^3
Don't let any wind power marketing scams fool you, you canna' beat the laws of physics Captain, or Betz's Law.

This thread would be a good opportunity to make a poll on what people think about — using your own word from the July 10th live — recycling content.

Which I believe may be a good idea for subjects like one in this video. Just please remember to always put that marker indicating it’s a snippet from an old video. And embed it directly in the video, not in annotations. My thinking here goes like that. There are always new people finding about your channel and they never seen that content. Better, it may bring new audience. But regulars may wish to skip something they already watched. Instantly, not a minute into the video, when their brain becomes certain they already seen it. :)

Did you think, how to avoid Alphabet penalizing your channel for low engangement in those videos? Or do you believe the influx of new users will balance out regulars stopping the video quickly? Or will it not matter at all?
Why 📎 | We live in times when half of people have IQ below 100.

I did a poll on that live show and everyone said it was fine.

Annotations haven't existed for a long time now.
Hundreds of my video I spent time annotating have all been lost when they disabled that feature.

That's why I literally included a big note seconds into the video.

I gave up trying to chase stats many years ago.
In case you are interested, it got a 98.5% thumb up ratio which is better than average and higher than the Mailbag video before it.

Hi Dave, in your live stream you said that the information about windpower efficiency is buried in your old 'busted' video and people could not find it if they googled for it.
I tried googling for it shortly after the live stream was on (I missed it by a few hours), before you posted #1696. I googled for "eevblog windpower efficiency". The first hit was your old video (#1271). So google search is actually better than you thought. Now the first hit is #1696, the second #1271.

That's because you used eevblog in the search.
