I don’t think much was needed to make the problem manifest. Let’s imagine you got lucky assembling it without the screw “just right” for the connection to be made. Any force applied to the PSU cover, either perpendicular or lateral, is likely to disturb that and break the contact.

Yep, Sagan simply opening the thing up again and handling stuff during the SSD upgrade was enough to upset the contact.
