Teardown Texas Ti-89 ?

Hello,

I am a French electronic engineer & I started my student education with the amazing Ti-89 tool. And still using it. I believe I will use it for a lonnnng time ...

I am looking for a deep close teardown of that monster. If you have any Dave, it would be nice.


They aren't solding that usefull monster. For an engineer that's really usefull ;

 - Powerfull Solver
 - engineering display
 - formal calculator
 - Nice touch buttons

& some other usefull stuff.

I use it really evrydays and it's no more produced.

I got the new cas Fx one. But

 - Slower
 - Buttons harder to push !!! if you want be fast really difficult.
 - more formal and advanced matrix (nice) but less engineering evryday usefull.

So I sold that crap.

I bought in my life, more than 3 Ti-89. I think I will keep that tool until I get old.

But I wonder, what if someday they aren't anymore to buy one ebay or ...

What if I want improve mine, or rebuild one ?

We can easily found the Rom of that product. But Schematics ( That could be really interesting for learning some electronics tips maybe ), I can't found anywhere. Is that possible to find them for a non-commercial use ?

Or maybe could you help us to retro-engineer that wonderfull box of science ?

You can still buy them today. The TI-89 Titanium is still available, the case is a bit different and it has more flash memory like the Voyage 200.

I sold mine on eBay last month. Mint condition, hardly used at all. There's still demand for them.

Pretty dated technology even back then, but it is good as a general purpose calculator, albeit quite overpriced. I would like to see an open hardware calculator with an Eink type display, physical buttons (optionally touchscreen as well), and a reasonably fast (100MHz or more) ARM CPU.
