Auction sites
« on: March 26, 2018, 11:08:06 pm »
Hi everyone,

Just scored some items from ppauctions.com (neither paid or shipped yet). And got real enthusiastic about other non-standard auction sites, and I see them as my only opportunity to score some good AND affordable test equipment (TEA? yup).
I've seen some good stuff on equipnet.com before, but tried registering for auction too late (Keithley 617 with starting bid 150GBP; no-one bought :palm:).

What are some other sites, where You have scored something?

So I did some googling and noticed just some particular items on random sites. Might be of interest to someone else, here they are (I definitely have interest, seems just too far and too heavy):
http://www.go-dove.com/en/auction/view?id=12882676 (HP 8560EC)
http://www.go-dove.com/en/auction/view?id=12882734 (2x 34401A, 8116A, Tek 2467B, 4x P6137 400MHz probes, LeCroy 9354PM...)
http://www.go-dove.com/en/auction/view?id=12882761 (8560E)
https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/50612319 (Keithley 192)

Cheers,
Zigmars

Sveiks Zigi (TSC?). The best deals to get something decent for cheap is when Toploser sells something sometimes. Usually returned stuff from Farnell. Although the best stuff is usually gone within 10 minutes.

Auctions generally suck. Even when a lot of equipment is sold after closure of some factory, vast majority usually goes for insane prices. Also you should pay a lot on top of what you bid (like auction fee, taxes). Usually stuff should be collected, won't ship themselves.

I know about the disadvantages and that You must recalculate the price before bidding, but there have been some times when You just get lucky and it is worth all the effort. At least if there is a plethora of equipment that is auctioned that You could use. Then it is more likely for this to turn into a bargain for You. Well... at least the shipping is somewhat amortised.
But yeah, You're right, that in most of the cases when it's only two to four things that You want and half of it don't get for reasonable price, shipping just kills it, if VAT + fees hadn't.

I guess, with broken/fixable stuff, there is more of a chance for me (as I don't mind love fixing test equipment and understanding more about it on the way).
Sadly, I haven't yet found any equipment locally that I could try to repair.
