BRAND NEW Agilent U1252B DMM w/ IR Bluetooth Adapter
« on: June 01, 2012, 04:04:39 am »
Hello Everyone.

I received a brand new Agilent U1252B Handheld DMM, as well as a brand new IR-to-Bluetooth Adapter(U1177A) as a gift. I already have a good couple of meters, and don't have a need for this; I will have better use with some other test equipment I don't have.  Before I continue, let me stress, this meter is brand-spankin new, and there is nothing wrong with it. I am only selling it because I don't need it.  I am giving the members of this great forum first dibs at it, before I possibly move to ebay or other places. Also, I can guarantee that this is the real-deal, and not a counterfeit or clone.

IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE US: I truly apologize, but I'd rather not deal with international shipping and the costs involved. I would love to work with you, but honestly just don't have the time. However, I might consider it if you are willing to pay actual shipping costs (shipping through a reputable courier, insurance, etc...), and would be willing to wait a couple of weeks for me to have the time to figure out everything involved. (I've never shipped internationally)

Details:

Note: This is the version that has the LCD screen, not the OLED display. This has greater contrast and battery life. It also comes with a calibration certificate from Agilent.

Key Features: (copied from Agilent's data sheet: http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/5989-5509EN.pdf)

-CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600 V safety

-Built-in programmable square-wave generator

Please use Agilent's data sheet as the final authority for all specifications. (datasheet linked above)

This item is also brand-new in the box. This will be included with the meter.

NOTE: In some of the pictures, the display is difficult to read or doesn't look that great. This is only because the original screen protecting film is in place. I assure you that the display looks perfect and has great contrast in person. Also, the serial number has been blurred on the calibration certificate. (No reason to post info like that on the internet)

Pricing:

This is AGILENT's pricing (same on newark).
U1252B     US $418
U1177A     US $  49
TOTAL:      US $467

This is Grainger Industrial's pricing

U1252B     US $480.50
U1177A     US $  58.25
TOTAL:      US $538.75

I would love to get US $350-$400 on this kit, seeing as it is truly brand new. However, I will consider any offer. Please do not hesitate to make one.

I reserve the right to not choose the first offer that comes in. However, my goal is not to create a 'bidding' situation. I will assess all options and make the best choice. You may want to PM me any offers to prevent others from seeing yours. I will consider offers in the order in which they were received. Keep in mind, that it will cost me $15-$30 shipping. I will absorb shipping costs - you get 'free shipping'. I will also consider a good trade, although I prefer to outright sell it. If you have something that would be a fair trade, let me know.

Items will be shipped either USPS, UPS, or FEDEX within the US, and will be packed well. If you are in Hawaii or Alaska, let me know so I can check if there is anything different for shipping there. I would prefer to accept payment via Paypal, although I suppose could accept check or money order. (PM me first though, about the latter two). Items will be shipped upon receipt of full payment.

If you would feel more comfortable with some sort of split payments (i.e. pay half of the amount first, and after receiving the item, pay the second half), we might can work something out. Although I would only be open to this through paypal. PM me first if you want something like this.

You may post any offers as a reply to this thread, or PM me. If you have ANY questions, or want to see pictures of something I have not covered, please do not hesitate to reply or PM me.

Thanks!
Joshua

Out of curiosity... don't the Agilent DMM's come with the 19mm probes anymore?
I was given a U1241B as a gift some months ago and it came with both the 4mm AND 19mm probes. From your images it seems as if this one only has the 4mm probes.

Am I missing something?

Greetings Architect.

If you are referring to the exposed probe tip at the end, I am not sure about Agilent's standard practice. My meter was supplied sealed from Agilent and had only the 4mm probes. If I understand correctly, this is to meet CAT IV requirements. (?) I personally prefer the 19mm probes myself, but I am just measuring small voltages; nowhere near anything like 480-600V. I hope I answered your question.

Yes you did. Thank you  ;D

I think Agilent switched the standard probe kit shipped with their DMMs. I believe they no longer ship with the 19mm probes. I find that rather crappy because now if people want the 19mm probes they need to spend an extra 30$ on a separate probe kit just to get them. The least they could do is sell the 19mm probes stand alone, as they do with their alligator clips and IC clips, i.e.

Interested in bluetooth adapter only, I'm in canada, can give you $50 USD for the adapter shipped. Shipping vost via USPS first class mail should be under $10 for this.

Hello Wartex,

How about $350 for the adapter and I'll throw in a free meter?  ;D

I would rather sell the two items together. If that doesn't turn out, it's yours. Do you mind PM-ing me an address that I can figure out the actual shipping costs? If you're not comfortable giving me your real address yet, you could just give me an address of a business in the same town. Let me see how it goes selling them together for maybe a week or two. I hope this is okay. (?)

Thanks,
Joshua

The U1252B I have came with 19mm probes as well as what's in Joshua's pics (4mm probes, alligator clips, and leads; bought in Jan. 2012). Earlier units also came with SMT grabbers and the thermocouple + adapter according to others that got one before I did (according to posts here in EEVBlog).

So the reduction of included accessories seems to be nickel and diming by the MBA's. Really crappy thing to do IMHO, as an improved value with equal or better quality is what they need to take sales away from Fluke. Their reputation on non-portable bench gear isn't enough on its own (their HH DMM line was acquired when they bought out Escort, not created from scratch by Agilent's own designers).

Indeed.
IMO it wouldn't be a totally bad idea if properly implemented. Although Dave doesn't like the modular probe system Agilent uses, I personally love it and I'm sure many more people do too. At the least what Agilent could do is offer all the accessories as individual products, i.e., the leads, the 19mm probes, the 4mm probes, the medium sized clips... and preferably at lower prices, instead of having to spend 30-60$ on a complete set that gives you duplicate leads, probes, etc. when all you are looking for is a specific item in that set.

I like the modular leads/accessories as well.

As per cost/performance for leads and accessories, Probemaster is a better value IMHO (better quality at similar prices as Agilent, as well as more selection).

Hello Jeh,

Thanks for the offer. Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I've been out of town this past week, and for some reason I did not get an email notifying me of a new reply. Would you care to PM your name and address so I can assess how much it would cost me to ship it?
