EEV uCurrent Gold wanted (Australia)
« on: June 24, 2023, 11:15:50 am »
Would anyone in Au have an EEV uCurrent Gold that they would like to sell? They are marked as out-of-stock at the EEV store and I received no reply when I emailed to enquire about lead time so perhaps they are no longer available. Thank you.

Guess you haven't seen this video on the second eevblog channel;

If you can't source a uCurrent, here are a few possible alternatives to checkout (I have no experience with these, so cannot speak to the quality):

  - an EEVBlog user, Ugnas (however, only a single post - announcing this), made a few uCurrent gold devices and is selling them on tindie

  - tinyCurrent - a uCurrent derivative.  There's a github project with schematics and design files

  - Current Ranger

Thank you guys, I hadn’t seen that video, Dave should really remove that product from his store. I’ll go buy one of the tiny current units, thanks for the link mwb1100!

I found one in an e-waste bin recently. Would you like it? I am in Canberra.

Very likely working. I have pulled a working Tektronix scope and various other nice things out of that bin, and I have no reason to believe that there is anything wrong with the microcurrent other than the CR2032 being flat.

Wow, I'd relocate to be next to that bin  ;D

If synthtech doesn't want it, I'm interested. I'm in Melbourne though, can pay for shipping costs.

Depending on what you're doing and budget, a JouleScope is a VERY useful upgrade from using a uCurrent and scope. It's ability to instantly and automatically switch ranges is great.

Probably overkill if you only use your uCurrent with a DMM.

uCurrent with a datalogging DMM is probably better value for a hobbyist on a budget like me.

Yeah, for a hobbyist a JouleScope really is a bit too pricey.

But it's great if you can justify the purchase for development of a product you're selling.
Makes development much easier/faster for battery powered projects.

Are all the magic dumpsters down in Australia?

So... Does anyone want the microcurrent that I got out of the bin? No guarantee that it works, but I expect it does. If you would like it, please DM me an address and say why you'd like it. If I get more than one DM I will pick someone, possibly fairly arbitrarily. I might ask for postage cost if it works out being a lot. I'd prefer not to send it outside Australia because of extra paperwork at the post office.

Received and tested, yes just missing battery  :palm:, it did have the offset issue Dave talked about in one of the videos and small bodge fixed it (C4 rewired to the opa output). I get about 0.05mV offset, within specs I think.

I'm annoyed that people bin perfectly good stuff.

Thanks again Chris.
