Free Intel Galileo Board from Microsoft
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:05:52 am »
Wasn't sure which section to put this in:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/151720

I just signed up and got the emails mentioned confirming my address and letting me know they'd email when the board has shipped.

Looking at the OzBargain thread it seems to be a bit hit and miss.  I did tick some options around hardware/software i have played with/used.

I signed up just with my gmail address - all emails were ~2minutes apart...

I signed up back on April when the website appeared and they sent me an e-mail last week, so did 2 coworkers of mine, hit on the link and was surprised that it will come with the actual kit. I already have a Galileo that is been waiting for this SDK.

Also it might be a US only thing not sure.
Edit: I guess not since the article above is not from the US.

Looks like they have had some trouble with people signing up from the OzBargain site and put a direct link.

"some are having more success going to the website https://www.windowsondevices.com/ without clicking via OzBargain website.

BTW don't get too excited about the arduino header, it's driven via I2C, you might get some speed if clocked at 400KHz but at the standard 100KHz the header is very limited.

I signed up, received an email, then filled in another form asking more questions, then received another email. Second email contained this:

"(my name here),

Thank you for signing up for the Windows Developer Program for IoT.  We’ll let you know when your kit has shipped.

Thank you,

Microsoft IoT Team"

Does this mean I qualified? I'm so excited... thanks to the OP for posting this!

Thanks from me too.
I signed up figuring it was worth a bit of marketing spam in return.

As long as I don't HAVE to run Windows on it ...

I just signed up, and it sent me a reply instantly with a link asking for a bit more info and now there is apparently a kit on the way to me.

I wonder if it'll run xubuntu nicely?

Thanks.

I used my other (non-business) email this time and got an email straight away with a link to ask more details.  I also changed to Enthusiast Project this time.  Hopefully I'll get an acceptance email soon.

I signed up using EXACTLY the same thing you did. FIrst time, I clicked the link and used work email, got nothing. Tried again later after reading the warning about copy pasting the link. This time I did just that and used my gmail address (same settings as you still) and received an email within 10 minutes. Filled out the form the email requested and received a second email within a few minutes.

This is exactly how the process went for me as well. No fuss at all.

Thanks to the OP for the link!  :-+

Thanks for the heads up! I may have ordered two kits.  Used my gmail and hotmail accounts, with separate mailing addresses and I got two different emails saying they will let me know when my kit has shipped.  I wonder how many they plan to give away?

Here are some links about the Galileo, of course all in here is for the Arduino IDE, Microsoft will provide the SDK for windows on devices, which is what I'm waiting for, but the documentation link (2nd one) has all you need to know about the Galileo.
