I've been going through my storage trying to cull stuff I'm never going to need, by selling or scrapping.
Here's one. Not electronics, and I'll also be listing in more appropriate sites. But just in case someone here is interested...
Wooden crate containing qty 370 (approx) of 1/2" BSF Button Dies. OD is 38mm (1.5")
They appear to be old WWII stock. Never opened, never used, still in original greased wrappings.
Each die is covered in thick waxy grease, then individually wrapped in grease-paper, then an outer waxed paper envelope with hand written text in ink pen. The wrappings are very old, but still preserved the dies in shiny rust-free as-new condition. Just unwrap and wash the grease off with kerosene. A few have a rectangular cardboard box under the outer wax wrapping.
Wooden crate has rope carry handles. Since the rope is so old I do not fully trust it. I lift the box using it, but take care to never have it above my feet.
The dies on top are packed 11 per row, 7 rows per layer, and it appears there are 5 layers deep.
However I dug down 3 layers in one place and the 4th layer visible was arranged differently, with the dies laid flat. So this calculation: 77 per layer x 5 = 385 is not going to be exactly right.
The box has "Box 370" marked on it. I'd rather not take them all out of the box, count them, then repack. Presumably the "370" is just an estimate too.
I weighed the box: 38 Kg. But that doesn't help calculate the exact number of dies since the weight of the empty box is unknown, and I'd have to remove all the dies to find out, then might as well just count them.
The box is marked "50 lbs", but 38 Kg is 83.8 lb, so the marked weight is wrong. It's very heavy.
Also if this needs to be shipped I'd have to nail a top cover board on, adding a bit more weight.
I have another box of button dies from the same origin, but that one has only a few, and mixed sizes. I unwrapped a couple marked '1/2" BSF' that had the same style of wrapping as these, and the photos show those dies unwrapped. I believe the dies in this box are the same. If someone is interested in these and wants me to open and photograph a few from the box, I will.
It's for sale as a single item, for AU$350. (About US$250) Less than $1 per die. Not going to bother selling individual dies. And so, if someone needs a lot of these it's a great opportunity to get them very cheap.
Location is Sth Sydney Australia, and pickup is obviously preferable to shipping due to the weight.
Hmm... looks like someone else in Australia has some of these.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-button-die-1-2-BSF-/252161695656They want at least Au$10 (US$7.11) each. And that's cheap compared to other ebay prices for 1/2" BSF dies.
