FS: Late 1940s Challenger CH18 Amplifier
« on: June 02, 2021, 07:22:55 am »
This may be better suited for a vintage audio forum but I'm already registered here and there must be some of you guys lurking. :-)

I'll be posting pictures soon. In the meantime I'll try and do my best to describe it. The amp is in quite good condition considering it's age (usual scratches on the bottom, side panels, etc). The front panel is almost flawless. It doesn't look as though _any_ work has been done on this amplifier. Inside it's very clean. I don't see any resistors that look like they have been heat stroked. It has two stromberg carlson 6V6 on the output that I'm guessing are not original's. The preamps are using RCA 6SF5's (the metal can type). In the middle the output's are being buffered with a 6SL7. For what it's worth, the pilot bulb is clear with no visible tungsten burnoff. I removed the cord since it was literally hanging by a thread. I have not attempted to power it up.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions. I will consider any sane offer so long as it goes to a good home. I'm also willing to ship the amplifier anywhere within the US (I'm located in Southern New Jersey).

Those old Bogen amplifiers were very popular back in the day.  I had a similar one which I recently gave away.  The distributor catalogs would often have a few pages devoted to them, from little 5 W to maybe 100 W units, some with elaborate input mixing facilities.  They were very similar, a chassis with controls and a cage cover.

If you want to get rid of it, go to a swap meet, especially one that attracts collectors.
