LFS: Horizontal RJ-45 THT-socket with 2.0mm pitch
« on: January 10, 2014, 07:41:33 pm »
Hello everyone,
i need a source for special RJ-45 sockets.
It needs to have a 2.0 mm pin pitch, which is very unusual i think. I can't find any part with that pitch.

- THT
- 8P8C
- without LEDs
- without magnetics
- Shield to PCB pins

Can someone help me out or give some hint?

Ick. Slap the designer/specifier.

I presume you're trying to source a part for an existing design - do the old connectors have anything at all marked on them?

Is that a vertical connector or a R/A? Can we get a picture?

Some similar units, looked on Digikey for unshielded RJ45 without LEDs, THT:

http://belfuse.com/pdfs/CT600029.pdf
https://www.amphenolcanada.com/ProductSearch/drawings/AC/RJHSE338X.pdf (the one without LEDs)
Probably worth asking reps from each company whether they have a part to fit the footprint. Those three were the only companies with 2mm pitch that I found with a quick look on DK.

Yep, i already slapped myself a couple of times for this :box:

There is no marking on the parts. No type-no. or manufacturer logo.

Its 90° angled, so its looking sideways when sitting on the board.

Thank you very much for looking. How did you found them so fast? I didn't found a single one with 2mm pitch :(
Did you used parametric search? Which parameters?

Did you used parametric search? Which parameters?

Is your connector tab up or down (the retention tab, you push it in on the cable to remove the cable)?
Does it have EMI fingers (fingers pressed out of the metal can on the outside, meant to make contact with the chassis), like this?
Does it have panel stops, like this?
How high is it?
Can you see through the bottom (ie like this, not like this)

(There's a reason I asked for a picture :P)

Search for:
RJ45 ->
Modular Connectors - Jacks ->
Limit to:
Shielding = Shielded;
Orientation = 90 degree;
Mounting Type = Through Hole;
LED = Does not contain LED;
Connector Type = Jack;
Rows = 1;
Ports = 1;
This gets us down to 310 components, around 110 of which are commonly stocked:
http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?pv635=7&pv90=1&FV=fff40016%2Cfff803b4%2C1140050%2C1400008%2C140001e%2C140001f%2C3400030%2C9500020&k=rj45&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ColumnSort=100001&page=1&k=rj45&filterAlwaysExpand=1&quantity=1&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=100

If you know where the connector tab is, that helps narrow it down a little further.

Next step: open every goddamn datasheet at once (hold ctrl and click down the PDF icon on the left) and inspect until you strike gold.

In short: limit to everything you can observe, then slog through the results.
