Wanted - Tektronix P6430 Temperature Probe
« on: December 23, 2012, 05:03:20 pm »
Looking for a Tektronix P6430 Temperature Probe for my Tek 465/DM44 scope and my Tektronix DM 501A plug-in.
This is the older style with the round connector.
Maybe you have one and the scope is long gone. If so, let me know.

This is an interesting one:

Using a Transistor as a Temperature-Sensing Device

Certain NPN transistors such as a 2N2484 can be used as separate sensors in place of the P6430 probe with little or no selection of the transistor.

Connect the temperature-sensing transistor to the DM 502 through the TEMP PROBE connector as follows:
Emittor - connects to pin 2
Collector - connects to pin 1
Base - connects to cable shield and then to the connector shell
One can never have enough oscilloscopes.

That's because the P6430 likely contained a BJT as temperature sensor. I know they did that for some of their temperature probes.

That is interesting.  I'll have to put that on the project list.  Still, for my general use I'm looking for a P6430 probe.
