WTB: 2X .1uF 2000V Caps (Vintage?)
« on: June 05, 2017, 11:17:54 am »
Would like to see if I can get two old .1uF 2000C caps for a repair attempt. Don't know if the CRT is any good still so not wanting to spend too much. Feels wrong to throw something new in a scope from 1973.

Does it have to be vintage caps?
Modern 2kV 100nF capacitors are easily available:

It doesn't have to be, and if I can't find an option that isn't ~30USD each it might not be. I was trying to keep the parts in the scope from 1973 all in that era, not hell-bent on it though.

You are almost certainly going to have to replace some PSU electrolytics. You would be unwise to replace those with vintage caps, since they will almost certainly also be defective.

Given that, and presuming your objective is to have a working scope, is it worth worrying about other caps being "authentic"?
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

I suppose not. I figured it would be difficult to find caps that fit the holes from the axial ones it has. Is that wrong?

It entirely depends on the capacitor; there are many shapes and sizes, and "axial" has many meanings.

If you mean 4 tabs at one end, three connected to the can, then people either bodge it or make a "carrier/converter" PCB with a standard modern capacitor's 2 connections in the middle, and the old 4 connections around the outside.

Give a peek at http://www.justradios.com since vintage is their focus.

Here's another source that has a large selection of older parts, although not the lowest prices:
