WTB: wide assortment of 74LS/74HCT
« on: January 15, 2016, 01:21:36 pm »
Hi,

I often use 74LS family in my retro computer projects. They are inexpensive but usually I have to buy from two or three different sources what generates unwanted costs and delay. So I'm looking for wide assortment of these circuits. Usually I'm using LS family but HCT are good too. Thru-hole components (I'm wirewrapping my boards). I'm rather interested with 5-20 pieces of each type than 100 pieces of 74LS04 for example :)

Due to shipping costs rather EU.

Thanks and all the best

I have a box of about 300-400pcs of 74 logic. But it isn't sorted, because I am too lazy to do it  ;D If you are interested I can send you some pics.

I have 2kg or so though 99% is unsoldered from boards.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

That looks like a lot of old unsoldered crap to me. Most certainly not worth $16. These chips sell for 20 cents each new so the bunch is worth around $6 in total NEW. Also: where is the anti-static foam? You will be better off sending it back for a refund and spend the money on new chips!

thanks for the input

Here there is no way to buy these things cheap, not as you show (For example, a couple of ancient 74HC00 cost easily 2€) but yeah, you got the reason  viewing others prices of other countries.

Regards

Jameco sells assortments like this one:  http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_84961_-1 But that's $0.40 per IC, pretty high.  They will ship internationally.

A bit less expensive is Unicorn's assortment:  http://www.unicornelectronics.com/Assortments/as1005.html

BTW, Unicorn has an excellent selection of old IC's:  http://www.unicornelectronics.com/prod.htm  I don't know if they'll ship internationally.

Amazing, never come across Unicorn before but certainly an interesting catalogue.

Couldn't see whether the devices are new or used, soldered or unsoldered, anyone know please?

Seems like they do ship overseas.  Their product catalog (pdf) says the following:

All foreign orders must be pre-paid with credit card, cashier’s check or
money order drawn on a U.S. bank, or bank wire transfer. We do not
accept letters of credit. Please do not send cash. Unless otherwise speci
fied, shipment will be via parcel post. Please include 20% for shipping ($
9.00 min.), excess will be refunded. Please check your country’s
import & duty tax, as customer is responsible for all charges.

I'm getting most of my parts from a german distributor called "reichelt". The HCT04 for example costs 0,28€ each there. As far as I can see, they are also shipping to Poland, but the fee seems to be around 10€. You can find the shop at www.reichelt.de and you can change your home country and language to get the right shipping costs :)

I've ordered from them in the past and they always sent what looked like new chips that worked 100%.

Thank you guys for all the answers. There are many sources of old logic ICs in Poland. Usually they costs 0.1-0.2 eurocents per piece so even prices in China cannot beat this offer.

But I didn't express properly what I want to buy. So to clarify: for many people LS/HCT are obsolete and they will never back to it (I've talked something like this few years ago too). Some of them store old ICs mixed in the box (even unsorted) and they want to get rid of it. And this is what I want to buy. Chips could be used before (I'm testing each part separately) but must come from sockets.

Regarding Unicorn - this company is very popular it the retro computer world. They have impressive offer of obsolete circuits - I pretty sure that they have parts even for Apple 1 replica.

I know what is FPGA but I'm not looking for FPGA board recomendations (and BTW there are better boards than Mojo and similar crap).

Somebody mentioned Reichelt in Germany. I've found on German forum (robotrontechnik?) that in the past they sold cheap bags with logic ICs. Anybody have more information?

Well I cant remember such IC-bags at reichelt, but there is another supplier who is specialized at trading old stock parts.
http://www.pollin.de/shop/p/ODk4OTk4/Bauelemente_Bauteile/Aktive_Bauelemente/IC.html
It looks like some part numbers are old chips from the former GDR. These ones are TTL-Logic, with worse performance than cmos chips.

You are right: it was pollin not reichelt. I see they still have this IC mix: 250 grams for 3 euros. And I found again topic I mentioned before about this pack: http://www.robotrontechnik.de/html/forum/thwb/showtopic.php?threadid=8350. Looking on the bag content it is rather waste of money: they know what they are selling and already filtered out most attractive parts which can be selled separately.
