Be wary of the U1253B as a reference meter. It's a good instrument, but there are traps:

Sir ,
Brian has a very valid point there .Not only this i think everyone should read the article he has published .Not only did he find that the U1253B has 5M Ohm impedance across 99.7% of its voltage measurement range ha also tells never to assume anything and test it .I picked up one of the agilents from ebay.com here ->
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AGILENT-U1253A-OLED-4-5-digital-MULTIMETER-/161103697141 .This seller accepted my offer of USD 200 + shipping .I now have this in my hand in india .Its the older U1253A Blue model .
I do have a few issues can some folks help me ? .Problem is the battery is old and needs replacing .The seller had one extra battery inside this Its an " Ansmann NiMH 250 mAH 8.4 Volts " .If i put this battery inside this instrument it does not charge the same " Possibly it has a sensor type arrangement to detect that its aH rating and voltage rating is higher or something " . The Other battery is the Accu Ultra from VARTA its rated at 7.2 Volts and 150 mAH " This battery works fine and the charger charges it " , But this battery seems old and Or Used too much i cannot confirm that .The engrave at the bottom says " 0513 " Either it means its made in the 5th month of 2013 which means its new enough or it means the battery expires at this time .Can someone confirm me this please .
The Second issue with the unit is that the seller has used force and broken a plastic TAB that helps retain the battery cover to the unit .Please See the picture attached to this .I was thinking to cut a Pen plastic round refill and glue it to the battery cover and use it or order a new one from agilent they seem to sell that still .So could you poeple help me with a battery solution and also post your suggestions for the battery compartment cover .Help is appreciated
