WTD: Oscilloscope & Old equipment in Perth
« on: March 23, 2013, 11:39:37 am »
Hi All,

I have been trying to track down some old equipment here in perth but with little luck. I have managed to get a Fluke 27 and a work bench but that is all.  I had arranged a scope from gumtree although he went aways on holidays and just never bothered to return my calls when they got back.

i am currently studying at tafe ( i have asked but they are short themselves) so trying to set up something at a low price point yet functional. After seeing another post i thought i had nothing to lose.

Thanks Damien

What can you afford,if anything?

There are a couple of old 'scopes advertised in last Thursdays "Quokka",one for $75 & the other for $85.
One is a BWD 2 channel,the other,unknown.

They often appear in the "Mobile Phones & Communications" section.

The Hills Amateur Radio Group  have their "HARGfest" coming up very shortly---it's a sort of mini-hamfest.
There are often  instruments 'scopes, etc surplus to some "Hams" requirements available .

There is also the WA Hamfest (bigger) in early August.
I'll look up the dates & post them here.

Hi vk6zgo,

thanks very much for the info i have been stalking gumtree although i totally forgot about the quokka. Those are BWD 539c (could be 535c) and the 539d. I am just at work atm and havent had a chance to do any research on those two just yet.

The scope that i was looking at ages ago was a hitachi v222.

Have you been to the ham fair? I didnt even know about it... would it be worth holding off and checking out the bargains there?  After watching daves video of the one over in nsw it sounds like it maybe worth while.

Cheers Damien

Yeah Damien,I go regularly.
The NCRG Hamfest is the big one for WA,but it is smaller than the NSW one dave went to,reflecting the smaller population of Hams in WA.
It still fills a reasonable sized hall,& is well worth attending.
The HARGfest is in a much smaller venue, but still often has some really worthwhile stuff.

The BWDs don't sound bad--they usually have nice bright CRTs,but one thing to watch for is that some models are prone to triggering faults.
The Hitachi sounds like a good unit from what I have seen on the Internet.

You may be able to pick up a Philips,or even a Tektronix or HP 'scope at either the HARGfest or the Hamfest.

I found my Tek 7613 100mHz mainframe 'scope complete with two vertical plugins & a dual timebase for $135 at a Hamfesta few years
back.
It's a great CRO,but the downside of the 7000 series is that they are quite large,& heavy.
