WTD-UK Circuit Vise
« on: April 21, 2014, 11:00:47 pm »
Hi All

I would like to buy a Circuit Vise like a Pana Vice
but I cant find anything suitable for a low price in the UK.
Wanting to spend around £20 and no more as it will just
be for occasional use.

TIA

For small boards I am using a cheap Chinese Bakku PCB. Low quality but works well.

Not to tell you what you don't want to hear, but I've had some really good experiences with PanaVises, and I haven't had any luck finding anything of quality for less than 50 USD. I don't know the situation in the UK, but if you scout it out, you can usually find a good used PanaVise set on ebay for ~50 USD. Plus, depending on the head, they can be useful for many other things as well.

Here's one I found on Ebay UK: eBay auction: #http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panavise-Products-SK-93065-Wide-Opening-Head-T34472-/351044116381?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51bbdc1f9d
See you now.

Digikey does a panavise, the small electronics one for around £25 and the one you put in your main vise for less; so if you have a few other bits you'd like to buy to make up the shipping, it's not too bad to buy a new one

Zapta - Never seen them before, have ordered a cheap one from ebay as its bound to come in useful.

AN - you'r link didnt work for me but I am following one on ebay now so never know I might get lucky.

DaveW - Digikey has got a really nice online schematic program, its basic but my fav one just for drawing small diagrams with
unfortunately you have to register to save your work and i tried late last year and I couldn't make an account with them,
if the ebay one falls through i will phone DK up see if i can register over the phone as you are right they are not
a bad price new.

Thanks guys :)

I think you got an good one there, I have the 300 base, and with the JR head, you get two balljoints that gives you great flexibility, I also have the standard Jr, and with only one balljoint it is not so flexible, so it tend to be sitting more than the 300.
Wonder a bit about the weight on the 328 though?, my 300 is heavy, but from the pictures it looks like it maybe is not heavy?, lighter type?
At any rate, I like everything heavy, so I bought this for the 300: http://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=13  (way overkill), and this one for the Jr: http://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=20 to make things not move around. (The 300 doesn't move in the first place, but I didn't know that at the time I ordered.. )

and £20?, ridiculously cheap, these costed me very much, I could not find them in Norway, so had to buy from US..

This one you will find need for I guess: http://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=228  (I think you can 3d print it also)
And these are nice to have, but not necessary http://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=23

Looks like you got a very good deal, as the head goes for ~$25 direct from PanaVise, and the base for ~$40. Almost like getting the base for free.  ;D

BTW, that base will hold other working heads you can add at a later time if you choose (may not have quite the range of motion due to it's lower profile, but you could raise it; model 300 base is 3.75"/95mm tall). For use with larger heads, you might want to secure the base to a metal plate or similar to help stabilize it (~8"/200mm or larger), with or without any sort of riser.

All this said, do realize you'll almost certainly become an addict after using it.  :o  >:D
