What's wrong with the quote button?

Perhaps Win 10 issue? I have no problems quoting on iPhone Safari browser, Android Chrome browser, or Win 7 Chrome.

No problem on Ubuntu with FireFox.

Maybe some disabled/enabled script issue.

I already described what the issue is (post 169). It is with the site itself, so it would be the same for all platforms/browsers.

For everyone that says it works - you are not looking at the right thing. We are specifically talking about the embedded editor that you get by clicking "Modify message" icon under your post, not a big "Modify" button over the post.

It is literally a matter of fixing a couple quote marks in the javascript. The issue is fixed with manually injecting the fixed javascript using a browser extension, but this is just stupid.

The way I read it is that JPortici has a different problem.

Ah, i haven't replied in a number of threads because the quote button doesn't work anymore and i don't want to bother doing it manually.

probably for the best?

I interpret "Not replied due to the quote button not working" as clicking on the regular "Quote" button above someone else's post and enter the normal editor that way. Not using the quick modify editor, where you would have to use the "Insert Quote" button.

Edit: Yet he did manage to use a quote in message 179.  :-//

There are two issues with the same reason. Editing does not work and quoting does not work either.

For quoting we are talking about the same thing - quick reply editor under the thread. This is a forum setting, so if you have it set to open a.new window (with posts sorted in reverse and the editor at the top), then it would work.

I think we are maybe not talking about the same thing here.

Hitting "Quote" with the Quick Reply section at the bottom open behaves differently to when the Quick Reply section is closed.
Since closed Quick Reply is the default, i think not many people are even using the feature. I wasn't even aware it existed before this thread came up.

Hitting with Quick Reply open gives that "Loading" bar and never does anything. Is Quick Reply closed, it opens the editor in a new page, and the full post is quoted.
Latest Firefox on Manjaro for me.

EDIT: Too slow  ;D

The quick edit thing is probably off by default. I never changed it, so my setting is from the day I joined the forum.

The standard way works fine for me so I will just leave it off.

No. Browser or PC settings issue instead.

Sooner of later it will be discovered just what the problem for some is.

Well, this is going in circles. This is a site issue. There is a error in the javascript. It can be easily fixed by adding a few quote marks. It is trivially fixed by injecting correct javascript locally.

If you don't have issue quoting, you don't have quick edit editor enabled as shows above. But everyone has an issue with in-line editing.

The forum has changed much over the years and we each have had to too in order to get the best from it.
Some are reporting the 1st attachment is still giving problems however it seems load attachments just fine for me however this 1st attachment is never 1st in the thumbnail list but fucking last !  :-//

So back to how we've used attachments for gawd knows how long now, only using the 2nd attachment and always skipping the first.

I don't imagine Dave is going to edit the code in forum plugins/upgrades.
If you can find workarounds I recommend you use them and get on with life.

I think the fix is to completely uninstall (as opposed to simply disabling) that halfassed editor. The errors are introduced by leftovers from that editor.

because it works in the full editor :)
the issue i'm seeing is in the quick editor, the quote button on the upper right of any post.
But i'm not going to go to the full editor to quote a post from three pages earlier, that i have to find in the list of recent replies, which isn't there anyway.

Here the quote button has stopped working the moment the quick editor was reverted from new to old

edit: just for kicks, i tried in safari, that i never use because it's a shitty browser, so i don't have ublock installed, or any other plugin. same issue: hit the quote button of upper right of post, forever loading.

This is odd. I don't get that. How do you quote then?

You don't get it because you don't have quick reply editor enabled in the forum profile settings.  When you press "Quote" you get redirected to a new page with an editor and this works. The issue is with the setting where page remains the same, but the quoted text is added to the quick editor box. This functionality is implemented through javascript that is currently broken.

Currently I don't quote at all.

But I do it all the time. You just go to that post and hit quote. Or mark the bit you want, copy, hit reply then the 'insert quote' button. How is the instant reply thing (at the end of the thread) any simple or quicker? The one time I tried it I found it loathsome - no way out of it if you changed your mind and didn't want to post.

Set aside the style of quoting. Everyone has preferences. But inline editing for a quick typo fix is faster and easier. And that is broken too.

Plus with the full editor you have to look at that row of stupid animated emotes.

What's that ?
If you use the Modify message button within the post body there are zero emojis.

Edit to make changes.

There is zero emojis, but it also does not work. It disregards the changes and redirects you to the first page of the thread. That's the whole problem.

Yes it does for you not many others of us. See above.

I think you might need to rebuild your browser or OS. Try a few other devices.
