You can try an SJCAM. But there are a lot of knock-offs so you can't tell if the quality is the best. As far as being "poor", I'm not sure what your background is, but if you are worried about whether to spend $30, 50 or 80... it is an issue of whether you want something that will last and perform well, or do you want it to break in a year and have to pay again and again? If you plan on abusing the camera, buy a cheap one. But Remember, all these are far cheaper than GoPro's already.
I would be far more concerned not about the price, but about whether I am getting a genuine camera and the value for money. So if I see 2 SJCAM and both are $60, and I see another for $30, which is real? I would pay $60 for the real one and $30 for the lower quality fake, but be very upset if I got scammed into paying $60 for the fake. That should worry you more than a few bucks.
