/diy/ vacuum tubes
« on: February 25, 2016, 10:23:32 am »
Found a cool post on the /diy/ board of 4chan: http://boards.4chan.org/diy/thread/946133/hi-diy-i-make-vacuum-tubes-i-make-other-things-as
Basically OP makes his own vacuum tubes and documents the process here: http://simplifier.neocities.org/

From what he showed the things work as well, super cool what you can make if you have the knowledge  :-+

This is a very soothing series of videos showing one craftsman's process. I like how most of the equipment is custom hand made.

Yes it's an awesome effort. He made the valves to mark the centenary (? I think) of their invention. He was attempting to use the tools and techniques that were available at the time of the invention - hence all the hand-made equipment - I think he had to compromise slightly with the turbomolecular pump, but it's still pretty impressive. Check out his website for more detail:

Curious there is no getter material on the inside.
There is a youtube video somewhere that explains how they activate the getter when it is inside the tube, involves RF.
