Electronics Chat Rooms
« on: November 10, 2018, 04:51:48 pm »
I have today trying to setup an old computer and been struggling. I remember back in the day chat rooms were popular and although they could on the whole be Vile and toxic places they could also be very useful to have quick exchanges of information with people wanting to post in real time.

I was wondering if there was any active technology based chat rooms still around and if there would be an appetite for such a thing today.

I quite enjoy chatting on some streaming YouTube  events and will likely say hello to Defpom and some other friends later on his channel.

I think it may be enjoyable to have a stream to look at as I’m often in the workshop on my own and it would be a good way to catch up or just rag chew from time to time and get some instant help.

It may be this has been replaced with some other interweb forum gizmo I’m not aware of, but does anything like this still exist. It wouldn’t be a replacement for this type Of in-depth exchange forum but it may complement it.

Regards Chris

Isn't the IRC here okay?

https://www.eevblog.com/chat/

There are those free irc clients such as x-chat and pigdin and many more.

I tried using the Discord app. The main problem is that there's still no elegant way of dealing with multiple conversations so you end up with a linear stream of interleaved dialog which is difficult to read.

I would think that real-time interactive chats are a dead issue.  There's 8 hours difference between our time zones so we 'might' be online at the same time but the odds are against it.

eevblog is about a friendly as it gets.  There are many forums related to specific topics plus this General->Chat forum.

It's 11:26 AM here so it's 7:26 PM in the UK and 6:26 AM in Sydney so there is some overlap.

Get yourself ia irc client https://www.mirc.com/ , connect to undernet .org,
park onto an appropriately named  channel and see who shows up :)

If three 100  Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

Or if you don't want to pay after your trial expires, use HexChat.  ;D
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.
