Are any of you going to take precautions to protect equipment during the upcoming magnetic storm that is due at about 14.00hrs GMT.

If so what? and what do you think the real risks are there is talk that it could bring the grids down.

The storm is indeed bigger than anything there has been in six years or so - but not bigger. In other words, we've seen much worse without significant issues. The "precaution" I'm taking is my winter jacket; if the weather is clear, I'm going out to see if there are any northern lights. :)

Was there a new event? Last I heard there was this:

Which hit us about 2 days ago. Also, it's past 14:00GMT and everything seems fine around here :)

when? should i care? think i should if earth core stop spinning.

Don't worry, we will just make a ship out of unobtanium and restart it.

I think the last line of this BBC report says it all:

"the effects of this solar eruption seem likely to be moderate"

Dear G7PSK:

--I was going to question the spelling of Geomagnectic, till I Googled it. Apparently it is indeed a bona fide word which is synonymous with Geomagnetic. I had never heard it before. Who knew?

Hi SgtRock I do seem to have put an extra c into geomagnetic A typo that I put my hand up to. Also until I saw the report I had not heard of Geomagnetic storms only magnetic storms and solar flares or storms. When one stops learning its time to book the undertaker.
