Hermes/EVRI prohibited and no protection items
« on: April 04, 2023, 05:32:40 pm »
I won a coffee maker on ebay at auction, seller chooses EVRI.
I was reading their terms and conditions out of interest and noticed coffee makers are a prohibited item and excludes protection.

*What I think maybe ridiculous.

Filth? What nonsense. Am I missing common sense?
How is it practical to capture "filth" and send it in the post. Sounds stupid/insance to me.Why would anybody want to do that and how would they know or care?

Joke: I suppose I could scrape off some filth somewhere whether it be off some old tiles or a wall, put in a letter and send it off.

I was looking at the No Protection items below:
Quote

*Television

*Velux
Vermiculite Board
*Watch
Coffee maker... I hope that turns up okay.

If coffee makers are prohibited why is it on that list.

I could understand if the item wasn't packaged well and they had packaging requirements to protect items but they could just claim the item was "**fragile" and refuse the claim on that basis.

Special Provisions:
Amplifiers - maximum Parcel Protection value for damages is £200.00, up to £1,000.00 for lost items.
Apple Mac/Macpro - maximum Parcel Protection value for damages is £0.00, up to £1,000.00 for lost items. (iMacs are protected for loss only)
Banjo/Guitar/Cello/Violin - maximum Parcel Protection value for damages is £100.00, up to £1,000.00 for lost items. Musical instruments must be sent in a hard case.
If Imac is in "No Protection items" why is there a special provision for it or do they mean something different.
Just had a look and Imac and Apple mac seems to me to be the same thing.

Actually I see it covers laptops and desktop but excludes the all in one models.

The next seller I buy something that is delicate and hard to find and on that list I got to warn them about Evri and I don't mind paying more for another courier.

What do you think?

It's probably prohibited because if it has glass, the courier's nightly football match risks breaking it.

Generally, with Evri/Hermes don't send anything that wouldn't survive a 6 foot drop or is worth more than £50 ish.

Asking why some items are in the list is probably just down to the type of items that are most frequently claimed against,  they don't make any money on the insurance if you actually claim after all.

Regardless of what they use, still on the seller to ensure it gets to you in one piece.

Many people used to use "Media mail" in the US, which is specifically for books and movies. But 99% of the time putting other stuff in there turned out OK.
Or Purolator here has a fixed rate "Express envelope" for paper documents, I've received big metal bars in those.

While working my way through college I was introduced to an organisation by another student, that paid good money to those who were prepared to be involved in the production, packaging, and distribution of filth!  :-[ :-DD

Seriously  ;) my only two experiences of what is now 'Evri' were complete 100% financial loss: first as a sender and second as a recipient. Would deliver something myself rather than use them ever again.

Schrödinger would have been disappointed.  :D

Fish (live or dead)

An interesting distinction, possibly a basic biology lesson is required - or maybe because their tanks aren't covered!

Why would you ship anything with Evri / Hermes? They're the worst there is.

What do you think?

Is this coffee maker located outside the UK? If it isn't then the international list from that link is meaningless, the UK list is here: https://www.evri.com/send/what-i-can-and-cannot-send
No mention in the prohibited list of coffee machines, for that one.

And IMO all couriers are shit, not just ervi, I've had damaged items from all of them.
Even watched a Parcelfarce  >:D driver throwing parcels around in the back of the van a few years ago, certainly a different way of sorting them.

They could have made that 'No Protection' list so much shorter with that...

No idea, never had any problems with USPS international & small Chainsaws, unless fuel/gas pours out of the box.  :-DD

*Seatbelt Tensioner

These are on the list because they have an explosive ("pyrotechnic") charge to wind up the seatbelt in a crash.  Like an airbag.

AKA Nevri and Herpes.

Having said that, I haven't had problems and the local delivery people are fine.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".
