I need a workshop!
« on: August 10, 2011, 04:35:43 am »
Or at least a workbench. I've a couple of electronics projects that I can't get started on as I have no where to work! :(

I moved from my last place about 3 months ago and since then, I've been house sitting for a friend. The place has plenty of space but it's all ouside! There is a workshop for woodworking but it doesn't have any power.

I'm looking for a place to rent but that will be another 5 or 6 weeks. Looking forward to being able to set up the workbench again as well as get the metalworking tools set up in the shed.

There, I feel better now....

What sort of space do these projects need?
Very common at companies to have an entire lab on your work desk.

I'm not currently working and when I do, it's in IT so there's no electronic equipment to use. :(

The projects are just personal ones so just a small workbench is needed. One task  is to build an OBD interface for my van. Another task is to finish off a digital readout (DRO) for my lathe. The DRO is actually finished but needs some troubleshooting but the oscilloscope  is in storage.

I'm in similar but maybe not so space constrained circumstances. Bunnings fold-up trestle tables doing an admirable job. They have them in bridge table size too if your really cramped.

In an old copy of ETI there was a design for an electronics workspace with solder station, part's storage etc, that you could hang on the back of a door when not in use. But I guess with no woodwork facilities you'd be screwed to build it presently.  ;)

How about a loooooooooong power cord from the house to the woodworking shed to get electricity in?

It's too cold to work out in the shed even if I do run electricity out there ( I'd have to get a 30 metre extension cord) I'd rather have somewhere to work inside where it's nice and warm.
I can't make anything too permanent as I'm only looking after the house.
It's all incentive to find a place of my own.  :)

You'll be plenty warm once you reach the red-faced-shouting-whywon'tyouwork phase of your project.
