After looking again, yes, skipping the needle, you can see the actual physical damage to the vinyl. I can understand the lighting difficulty while trying to maintain the temperature of everything. Looking at the difficulties involved in high speed filming this actual playback, I can forgive the dust, not to mention that that dust would be pretty much invisible at normal viewing size.
At the second set of skipping, played back at 1/4 speed, you can clearly see the needle carve out 2 thin shaving streaks of vinyl and leave the dent over the middle bump.
