I don't know how clever Dave thought he was with abbreviating "Electronics Engineering Video blog" to EEVblog but it at least had its genesis in something straight down the line descriptive.
I never meant to use the abbreviated EEVblog name. I in fact asked for suggestions in the first video. But nothing really good came up, and the full title, whilst very descriptive, is of course too long. So EEVblog just stuck, and with hindsight I'm glad it did because it makes a great single word "brand" name, and the EE part is instantly descriptive to the target audience.
So there was nothing clever at all, it was just that nothing else came along, so it was just indecisiveness, and I didn't really like it until I realised the power of branding.
Same goes for my essentially non-existent logo.
The Amp Hour was different. It was the just "the Dave Jones & Chris Gammell" show for a few weeks until Mike came up with the very apt Amp Hour. There were plenty of other names, but none of them grabbed both of us as being perfect and obvious.
