Name ideas for an electronics channel.
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:59:17 pm »
Hey all, with the arrival of my UNI-T UT71C (which is AWESOME) I figure the teardown/review should go on a proper channel. No equipment upgrades in terms of camera or mic, but having an electronics only channel was suggested a fair bit to keep gaming stuff out of it, so I am going to make one, but I am having trouble coming up with a name for it. Any ideas?

I was going to use keysight but that's been taken  ::)

Why not "electronics channel"? It seems to be free.

Is ElectronicsMinecraftBoobsExplosions taken? It'll get more views  ;D

Seriously, so hard to pick. But once you do pick you are stuck with it, so chose wisely.
What do you plan do on the channel?
I'd pick something that generic, so it doesn't matter what you end up doing.
So don't pick say "ElectroReviews" or "ElectroTutorials" as that kinda boxes you in.

Agreed.

I don't know if you have experience with the multiple channels for one account thing, but can you change the name whenever? That would allow for more freedom.

Pretty sure you can change the display name, but the URL stays the same I think, and it also ruins your "branding".

Yeah, if the URL changed that would be great, too bad though, so whatever I come up with sticks, that makes it tough.

What I wanted to say.
The funniest thing about this signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything its too late to stop reading it.

I agree with this as well.  Simple, descriptive and to the point.

But no one will remember "XOIIO". It might mean something to the OP, but otherwise it's just gibberish.

I don't know how clever Dave thought he was with abbreviating "Electronics Engineering Video blog" to EEVblog but it at least had its genesis in something straight down the line descriptive.

I never meant to use the abbreviated EEVblog name. I in fact asked for suggestions in the first video. But nothing really good came up, and the full title, whilst very descriptive, is of course too long. So EEVblog just stuck, and with hindsight I'm glad it did because it makes a great single word "brand" name, and the EE part is instantly descriptive to the target audience.
So there was nothing clever at all, it was just that nothing else came along, so it was just indecisiveness, and I didn't really like it until I realised the power of branding.
Same goes for my essentially non-existent logo.

The Amp Hour was different. It was the just "the Dave Jones & Chris Gammell" show for a few weeks until Mike came up with the very apt Amp Hour. There were plenty of other names, but none of them grabbed both of us as being perfect and obvious.

If you were a cute female (especially if Asian) you could just use your real name. Like Anna Akana.
But for everyone else, that's not a very successful strategy.

How about XOIIO Productions?  Generic, yet a bit mysterious. (At least, it's mysterious to me, since I have no idea what XOIIO means.)

It's my name, more or less.

Has anyone read the redwall series of books? There was a code in the book triscar which I was very fond of, I memorized it so well I knew it as well as English and even sometimes accidentally wrote in it, my name in that code roughly looks like "XOIIO" and I needed a username, so it stuck.
