Obsessed with NASA-Help?
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:56:44 pm »
I'm becoming obsessed with NASA and it's shenanigans, Please help ;)
Just spent a sunny afternoon indoors watching this

That got me curious about actual apollo 11 film footage (can't believe most of the original it was wiped/lost).
and found this

http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/video11.html

I can't remember much now about watching the moon landings when I was 8 years old on TV during my summer school holidays. Must have seemed boring or maybe I felt overwhelmed by what I was seeing. I remember all the beeping as mission control spoke to the crew. I remember staying up into the night (which was a privilige for an 8 year old).
But from an emotional point of veiw I can't look at photo's of the Earth from space without wanting to cry. I get tears in my eyes every time I see it.
I'm only now beginning to take it what they actually achieved back then. It's beyond words.

For a counter-point, find a copy of "Capricorn One".

I saw that in the theater...an exercise in cinematic mediocrity.  :P

Anyone seen the HBO mini series "From the Earth to the Moon"?  Is it worth picking-up a copy?

I haven't seen it but it looks like they deal with a lot of the engineering aspects of the Apollo program.

If "From the Earth to the Moon" is the show I'm remembering, it was very good.

Yes, the documentary too, "For All Mankind" is a condensed documentary version of details dramatized in "Earth to the Moon".

The best on film are here:

The two above I think, are the best of the group.
