OZ Oatley Electronics going/gone?
« on: April 27, 2026, 06:55:50 am »
Having purchased a few items from Oatley Electronics many years ago, for some reason today I was wondering if they were still in existence.

I see that their web site is still up, but it presents an undated message saying: "WE HAVE CEASED NORMAL OPERATION". It mentions a clearance sale but just says to call for more information.

There's still family owned rockby.com.au in Victoria if you prefer to pickup your parts.

+1 for Rockby. I've ordered from them many times in the past and they often have all kinds of weird and wonderful things. Their website is like it's from 1997 however.

This is what always kills it for me, I can't understand why they insist on keeping it that way. Every now and then I remember them and go hunting for something and within 5 minutes of using the website I'm just like "Ahh fuck it, I give up".

It's not even just the hideous layout, I could look past that. It's all the odd website behaviour like not letting you right click to open products in new pages and dumb things like that. They have so much good stuff, but it's like the website is actively trying to get you not to buy it  |O

Looks like Branko is finally retiring.
His phone number is on the web site if you're interested in his items.
He's been in business for at least thirty years, and also had several projects published in the magazines during that time.

They're pretty much the last man standing from the old-school electronics shops and I used to like trawling through the clearance area when they were at Renver Rd. I haven't ventured out to the new location which is further away.

Yes, same, back when I lived in Melb, got all sorts of amazing things from the Renver Rd warehouse. I still buy from Rockby regularly as they are just about the last mob I know of that gets surplus components and moves them on at excellent prices, at least in their sales. I buy a bit of stuff that way for my own shop. Plus, their shipping is fast and well priced.

As for Oatley, looks like their site is gone or going, is giving a certificate error now, so they are pretty much done. Hopefully, Rockby will keep going for a while yet.
