Sadly purchases from China are transacted in a third party currency.

Somehow i doubt the new exchange rate will affect the purchase price in this third party currency.

It's a fine line between bravery and stupidity, and I know which side of the line I place trying to guess the currency markets.

the yuan is not a fully floating currency, it's exchange rate is still artifically held in a narrow band no matter what, if you look at currency history cny to usd over say the last 5 years, you'll see the value "floats" between about 15 and 17c, doesn't matter what happens, that's where it stays.

Yen is Japanese currency.

Opps... chaning the text  to  lire..  8)
RMB is the Chinese currency, "yuan" is colloquial.  Yen is officially Japanese, but since some of the Chinese seller are using it too, well, who am I to argue with a Chinese on what he call his "buck".  I personally still call it RMB in my mind - perhaps because I still have some.

People often got the East mixed up.  Eons ago, I was visiting Hong Kong just before it was SAR, China. (So, before 1986 when the Union Jack was lowered.)  UK folks come and go freely as park of the UK.  So, other UK people can work in Hong Kong at will.  I was hanging out with an Exec there (a relative).  She had a resume/CV from an Englishman, it closed with "how much he wanted to live and work in Japan."   An Englishman, mixing up Hong Kong as being part of Japan.  And this guy was sending his CV to a managing director of a multi-million dollar business.  He didn't get his chance to work in "Japan".

Not exactly true. The government may try to peg it to the USD at a specific exchange rate but depending on the circumstances, they cannot always defend that peg.  For example, recently in Hong Kong - where the yuan exchange rate is not directly controlled by the PBOC, the yuan's value has been dropping faster (relative to the USD) than even the PBOC wants it to.  In these type of extreme situations, it often becomes the "tail wagging the dog" as the central bank is just trying to keep up with what the market dictates.

Also, Chinese New Year is coming, Feb 8, 2016.

Orders around that time is going to take at least another two weeks extra!
