Well LTspice has gone to crap now AD have got it...
« on: May 17, 2018, 09:49:01 am »
So I just got myself a new workstation box today and installed the latest AD branded LTspice drop.

Literally everything I do crashes it. It hard locks, never responds and that's it. This, over and over again:

Not talking a complex circuit as well. Just a simple diff amp:

Fucks sake AD!

LTSPICE XVII was released before the AD acquisition i think?
it works for me anyway on my windows 10 machine

One thing, i have to disable the reatrded admin policy, because software has to be launched as an admin to do things like create or edit symbols

This is the version I have:

Still can't get it to do anything. This is on Windows 10 1803. Hardware is good. It ran memtest86 soak for 48 hours and is an ECC equipped workstation class machine.

Solved it the old fashioned way. Bob Pease was right but for the wrong reasons...

Try the 32-bit version.

By the way, the older version is still available.

Will try both of those in turn and see what happens. Good idea.  :-+

Hello!
Same 64 bit version (4th May 2018) runs fine in a Win7 VM and under wine 3.0. I didn't have any problems yet.

the problem might well be his Windows 10. I too run LTSpice XVII (or whatever it's called!) on a Win7 VM.

I don't know what's different about the new version than the previous LTSpice that also ran on macOS.

I got this message from my CAD software supplier yesterday:
"Due to a problem caused by Microsoft with the recent Windows 10 update version 1803, CADSTAR software might stop working when being authorised on a dongle. We advise customers NOT to install this Windows update."

So, yeah, well done Microsoft.  :palm:

BTW I see new stuff in this version like a model for heatsink and other weird stuff. What are the new major additions since AD took over?

I suspect that they will change its name if they put more effort into it.

Yep looks like MSFT fail. Fucks sake.

No idea yet. Keeps crashing! :)

Did the design by hand and built it in the end. Got two oscillators, attenuator, balances mixer and two filters working without LTspice in the end.

What LTspice version are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Got a real problem now. Can’t uninstall the old version as it has its own installer rather than MSI and that crashes. Grr.

Look and see if a restore point was made as part of or just before the install process.

This was a fresh build of 1803 on a new machine.  No system restore.

Same here, no problems, see picture.

One thing, i have to disable the reatrded admin policy, because software has to be launched as an admin to do things like create or edit symbols
You could try adding your user with write rights to the ACL of the topmost directory of the subtree where symbols are stored.
Start an administrator PowerShell or cmd window, change to the parent directory of the one you want to modify and issue:
Code: [Select]
icacls.exe 'dirname' /grant JPortici:F /TYou should then be able to create/change/delete files and folders (F==full control) under that subtree.
The same can be done with about a zillion clicks from the Security tab in Properties panel of the directory.

Nandemo wa shiranai wa yo, shitteru koto dake.

1803 seems to have some issues right now. I love rolling updates, it's the same problems you have with a proper migration only now at least once a year.  :palm:

Exactly that.

I’m rolling xubuntu out now and will run it in a VM on windows 7.

Ah, makes sense. The only big update i had installed was last year's creators update. Fall creators brought in a lot of issues so they were disabled.

1803 is yet another update. 1709 is the fall creator's you mention.
